Almost a thousand were sold over its three years (1955-1957). Prices started at just $1095, quite a bit less than a new car of the times. They were cheap to build, and the chassis could be bought in junkyards for $45 or so. Powell was supposedly profitable, but the business was wound down in 1957.

Between 1955 and 1957, approximately 1,000 pickups were produced, but fewer than 100 Sport Wagons were built. The unique pull-out fishing rod holders and bait box were among the special Sport Wagon features. Production ended in 1957 due to a shortage of 1941 Plymouth donor cars.

Welcome to Powell Sport Wagon Registry. Early 1955 pickup doors opened all the way back against the front fender. Through mid 1956 all pickups had the rear bed panel and tailgate fashioned from diamond plate. Henry-J steering wheels replaced the Plymouth units in mid 1956. Station wagons were produced in late 1956.

Powell's Pickup Truck & SUV manufacturing only lasted from (started Production of the 1955 models in 1954) 1955 until early 1957. The company returned to building Scooters and mini-bikes in 1960. The reason the Powell Pickups and Sport Wagons make it into the MoparWiki, is it's Mopar Drivetrains .

Their first Powell Sports Wagon was completed in 1954, weighing around 2700 pounds with a steel body (except the fiberglass front grille, varnished oak bumpers, and oak tailgate). The Powell stood 68" high with an overall length of 168". The Powells bought Plymouth chassis, without the bodies, from local wrecking yards for $45 and up, shipped.

A 10 ton coal wagon - number 18 - was built at Bristol Road in February 1903 measuring 15' 6" x 6' 11" x 3' 1" and a 5-16-2 tare while December 1903 saw delivery of a 10 ton coke wagon. Numbered 45, this had the same body dimensions with the addition of coke rails 1' 10" high on top. Tare was slightly increased to 6-1-2.
