690 posts · Joined 2011. #1 · Oct 9, 2019. I'm looking at buying a 2012 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3l engine. It has that AFM system in it and currently has 117k miles. Some people say these are very problematic with having lifter issues. It doesn't seem to have any ticking sounds and has always been dealer serviced.
