The A-36 does not have good climb rate. It's an Allison-engine P-51 with extra weight. Furthermore, in a vertical climb you're absolutely going to be caught by a 109. They have better power to weight than you do, which means that you're going to stall before they do, unless you start the climb with a hell of a lot more speed than they do.
