The parking area (accessible by 2WD) is found on Stephens Cres and the dunes are marked on google maps as Guilderton Sand Dunes. Note: signage indicates there is an amoeba risk, particularly in shallow water above 20C, so it's recommended that you keep your head above the water to reduce the risk and avoid jumping into the water.

To visit the the Moore River near the estuary we decided to start from the southern side where there are the Guilderton Sand Dunes. We followed Barragoon Rd, a paved road that ends on the bank of the Moore River right next to Caraban Canoes. There is a parking area here and canoes can be put into the river, but not boats because the riverbed is.

The name is said to be derived from the wreck of the Gilt Dragon which foundered off the coast in 1656. 75 members of the crew reached shore and seven sailed to Batavia for help..
