HENRY CAREY, first Lord Hunsdon (1524?-1596), governor of Berwick and chamberlain of Queen Elizabeth 's household, born about 1524, was only son of William Carey, esquire of the body to Henry VIII, by his wife Mary, sister or Anne Boleyn and daughter of Sir Thomas Boleyn. Through his mother he was first cousin to Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth knighted Henry Carey and also made him Baron Hunsdon. She also visited him on his deathbed, offering him the Earldom of Wiltshire (once owned by his grandfather Thomas Boleyn). On 12th August 1596, Henry Carey, 1st Baron Hunsdon, son of Mary Boleyn, nephew of Queen Anne Boleyn and cousin of Queen Elizabeth I, was buried at Westminster Abbey. He had died on 23rd July 1596 at Somerset House, in London, at the age of seventy. He was buried at his cousin the queen's expense in the abbey's St John the Baptist's Chapel.

The Oxford Companion to British History Hunsdon, Henry Carey, 1st Baron (1526-96). Hunsdon's mother was Mary Boleyn and he was therefore Elizabeth I's first cousin. Since Mary Boleyn was Henry VIII's mistress for a time, it was suggested that he was also Elizabeth's half-brother. He was MP for Buckingham 1547 and 1554.

HENRY CAREY HUNSDON, 1ST Baron (c. 1524-1596), English soldier and courtier, was a son of William Carey (d. 1529); his mother was Mary (d. 1543), a sister of Anne Boleyn, and he was consequently cousin to Queen Elizabeth. Member of parliament for Buckingham under Edward VI. and Mary, he was knighted in 1558, was created Baron Hunsdon in 1559, and in 1561 became a privy councillor and a knight.
