In 2006, when we discovered this village, it had only nine of its original inhabitants left, and a set of about 50 houses in an advanced state of disrepair. Only nine of these.

The Village of Pedralva was a village dedicated to farming for many years until it went into a depopulation process in the last 30 years.In 2006 it was a set of ruins with 9 inhabitants. After a long process to purchase the houses in the village from a group of about 200 people, it was possible to start the reconstruction process, as close to the original as possible.

The owner Antonio Ferreira was looking for a career change and when he stumbled upon Pedralva village (at the time no more than a pizza place and abandoned, dilapidated houses) he began to buy them up and rebuild them.

The village is in a valley and a short drive from the towns of Vila da Bispo and Sagres. There are numerous deserted sandy beaches along the coast and several paths for walking/biking. Aldeia da Pedralva is set in a tiny, remote village in the southwestern corner of Portugal, 20 minutes drive from Amada Beach on the Atlantic coast. At Amada Beach you can surf or hike a beautiful part of the coastal walk, Fisherman' Trail. We stayed in a quaint and quiet corner house called Furnas with two bedrooms.
