#1 ยท Sep 16, 2009 How ya guys doing? I was wondering if any of you guys with the 3.7 I-5 have engine knock issues. I have a Hummer H3 with 20k miles and it knocks constantly in hot weather with the A/C running. Ive taken it two times to the dealer and they cant seem to figure out whats causing it.

I used to have a Colorado and Canyon with the I5. Your best bet is to have multiple places look at it to verify the head is the problem. A p0300 means multiple cylinder misfire. Cant see how they came to that conclusion just checking cylinder 1. $1300 is way too much to replace a hub. I dont care if its an oem item or not. Get another opinion.

I am having a hard time finding any xtremes with less than 50k or so its been suggested I widen my mileage limits. Leads me to wondering what the reliability of the I5 is?

In the morning going to work, after driving for about 20 miles, I come into town and start hitting traffic lights. when I have to stop, it idles normal for a little bit then it drops to 500 rpms and stays there until I gas it to take off again and it will do this at every traffic light.

It may stall 1-2 times but after it runs for over 45 seconds, the problem goes away. It only stalls on start up after sitting for 6-8 hours. Keeping in mind that those that have had bad experiences will not praise them and those without issues will, you will have to form your own opinion. The early engines (2.8/3.5) were more problematic due mostly to the issues with the valves. A 2.9 will give you more power than the 2.2 that you had. Not sure how much more that you are looking for..

My personal experience with it in my shop in these trucks and the H3 Hummers is: coil failures, wire harness issues where it rubs the block on the driver side and causes loss of 5v reference signal, water pumps and thermostats. Basically the repeaters I have seen. The early 3.5 had head issues but you're looking at the 3.7 so no issue there.
