You can also be leaking coolant over your transmission housing, every once in a while when the tranny would get warm I would smell it in the cabin. No visible signs of leak beside always being low on coolant. Supposedly there's a coolant line that goes into a "T" and it leaks onto the tranny housing. This was what I found. View attachment.

Posted August 18, 2018. My 2011 1.6 ecoboost went in for the coolant upgrade 6 weeks ago, 3 days after coolant warning light came on. Booked it back in as im topping it up every week with no sign of leaks. Ford gave it me back saying its been pressure tested all day no leaks myst have been an airlock.
