While average prices for the vintage Broncos are cresting $20,000, average values for Scout 80s are around $12,000-$13,000, according to popular price guides. Still, that's a sharp increase from 2008 when average values were in the neighborhood of $6,000. The Scout arrived on the scene in 1961—about 16 years after the Jeep CJ 2A's 1945.

The Scout 80 was the first model of the International Harvester Scout and it was available as either a conventional 2WD or 4WD. Its engine was the Comanche 152 cu. in. (2.6 litre) in-line four cylinder producing power of 93hp and torque of 137lb/ft and mated to a manual three speed Warn T90 manual gearbox for both 2WD and 4WD models.

The International Scout was introduced in 1961 as the first competitor to the Willy Jeep. Like the Jeep, the Scout had a removable roof, a fold-down windshield, and four-wheel drive.

Engines in the Scout II were upsized a bit over the elder Scout and started with the old 196 cubic inch inline-four from International. Up-level options included 232 and 259 cubic inch inline-six engines from AMC, 304 and 345 International V8s, and two inline-six diesels from Nissan: A 198 cubic inch SD33 engine, with or without turbocharging.
