The dealers near me have both the KLX and DRZ in stock, I'm buying new. (It's always been a dream of mine to buy new, especially now that I can afford it, not interested in used) From my research already I've figured I'll have to do probably do the suspension on the 300 as I'm 6'2 and 230 pounds. I'll be riding primarily trails.

2 Next airski Posted July 7, 2006 Is the 2004 Kawasaki KLX400R really a DRZ400? I know that Suzuki produced some bikes for Kawasaki, but i wasn't sure about that year. The KLX250 and 300 are virtually identical except for roadworthy stuff (and the weight that goes with it) and the e-start. It still has a steel rear subframe for hanging all sorts of bags from and has the extra grunt the 250 boys are yearning for. Your right about the offroad gearing - very easily changed.

How is the handling in the tight stuff compared to the KLX? Has anyone ridden both? 2 How is the power of the stock DRZ compared to the KLX with all of the free mods?

Bottom line, I remember when the KLX was released in the early 90's only to re be reborn again as the 250 dual sport. I know how the CRF's engine has evolved from 250 to 300 in the CBR and how powerful it actually is. They are not extremely over square engines like the mx bikes or even the DRZ.

KLX 300SM vs DR-Z 400SM .. You can put on a fancy dash on drz for like 300 bucks if that's what you want. Believe me, on a supermoto you are not going to be looking down at the dash a lot..
