#1 · Jan 20, 2023 So I have almost 9k miles on my Rivian and my fronts are already worn to 4 and 5/32 and rears are 7/32 (they are doing tire rotation in a few days - SC previously told me at 7500 it's not needed.doh)

Answer 1 of 7: I have a France rental car. Currently in Switzerland. Planning to drive to Munich and Berlin after this. I'll be in Munich 3 November and will be in Germany for 1 week until 11th. Is it the time already to change to winter tire in.

We will be in Munich over Christmas and then rent a car from Avis or Hertz or Budget and drive to Nesselwang and then to Berchtesgaden and then Salzburg and Munich. We are getting conflicting reports about should we ask for a rental with snow tires. They cost 13 Euro more a day!!! Some say the car comes with "summer" tires, others say "all season", and you need to reserve snow tires five days.

Look at TireRack: Sizes To Fit Your Vehicle (tirerack.com) There is exactly one 21" tire for the Rivian. 8 for the 22", 3 for the 20". I wouldn't assume that there will ever be more 21" choices. I didn't see the need for the 20" config with the AT's due to their range impact and because our off-roading consists only of very occasionally towing our small teardrop down some gravel or fire roads for a few days of boondocking.

If you plan at all to drive in any snow, go for the 21". 21" will also work on light off road (I own the pirelli all season on my MDX, they are amazing). Edit: forgot Rivian uses the Zero all season which will indeed take you to light snow. However, per Pirelli's website the Verde's are better with wet traction and moderate off-road.

In 2022, Rivian produced 24,337 EVs and delivered 20,332 — up from 1,015 in 2021. In Q3'23, Rivian produced 16,304 vehicles and plans to produce 54k (previously 52k) by end of year across the R1T, R1S, and Amazon EDV.. Hopefully Nokian makes a 21" winter tire based on their "we don't have one yet" statement on their site.

Was essentially 24 hour ordeal to patch, tow, find replacement and have it installed, as I am now 1300 miles from home on road trip and can't live on Rivian service timelines.

I have read that the 21" tires are the sweet spot for range on the R1T, and moving to the 20" tires can cost up to 15% (I believe that's what I saw on these forums)
